Powys CC’s waste awareness team goes green

Powys County Council’s waste awareness team is to benefit from the addition of three new electric vans.

Backed by funding from the Welsh Government, the locally purchased Toyota Proace vehicles will support the team in their work at community events, as well as enhancing resident engagement and response to environmental issues.

The council has said that the new sustainable fleet additions will lower the local authority’s carbon footprint, aligning with the aims of its Sustainable Resource Strategy (Waste and Recycling) and helping to meet its 2030 net zero target.

According to the council, the vans will assist officers with enforcement duties, such as fly-tipping and littering hotspot investigations. The move will also support the team’s wider responsibilities of promoting ‘responsible waste behaviour’, recycling, and cleanliness across communities.

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys, said the vehicles will ‘strengthen the presence of our Waste Awareness Team in communities across Powys, supporting their essential work to help residents recycle more, reduce waste and keep our county clean.’

Following a recent order, the council is also expecting the arrival of additional electric vehicles for recycling collections and street‑cleaning operations.
