Maidstone Borough Council has added a striking new vehicle to its refuse fleet, wrapping a 26-tonne recycling lorry in eye-catching artwork to encourage residents to recycle more.
Dubbed “The Big Green Recycling Machine,” the vehicle was wrapped by Creative Vehicle Wrapping (CVW) using designs adapted from two winners of a public art competition run in partnership with SUEZ.
More than 500 entries were received, with the winning designs submitted by Becky Planck, a primary school art teacher, and Zak, a pupil at St Simon Stock Catholic School.
The initiative follows the council’s introduction of Binosaurus Rex in October 2025 – a fully electric refuse vehicle wrapped in dinosaur graphics and the slogan ‘From fossils to the future, Maidstone is ROARING towards net zero.’
Deputy Leader Cllr Clive English said the vehicles were ‘a powerful way to grab attention and start conversations,’ adding that even prompting one household to recycle better would make the initiative worthwhile.
