Kent CC welcomes David Ploughie and friends

Kent County Council has unveiled the names selected for the 62 vehicles in its new gritter fleet.

The announcement of the names was made at the local authority’s annual gritting parade at Aylesford Highway Depot, which represents the beginning of the winter maintenance season.

It showcased the 62-asset gritting fleet and revealed the names they have been designated based on the results of a competition held over summer.

Among the winning names submitted by local children were Grittersaurus Rex, Ozzy Frostbourne, Ice-Specto Patronum, and Gritney Houston.

The vehicles were built by Econ Engineering and ordered through the council’s contractor, Ringway, with the parade providing information about how the vehicles operate, as well as their new technology and safety features.

Toby Howe, KCC’s Winter Service Manager, said: ‘Preparing for winter is a year-round process. Our drivers, vehicles, salt supplies and response plans are all put through their paces well before the colder weather arrives.

‘The parade is an important opportunity for our teams and drivers to refresh their knowledge of our winter processes, helping us deliver a fast and effective response when treatment is needed.’
