Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) is marking the first anniversary of its in-house waste and recycling service, delivered through its wholly owned company Terra Verde Services Ltd (TVS).
The local authority is also celebrating the completion of a permanent operations hub at North Weald Airfield.
TVS was established to combine public-sector oversight with a commercially aware delivery model, allowing the council to retain strategic control of frontline environmental services.
Service Director James Warwick described the first year as a success, noting that all key deadlines were met – including transferring 140 staff into TVS, establishing a temporary workshop, and launching the new service schedule in November 2024.
Fleet partner Specialist Fleet Services Ltd (SFS), appointed on an eight-year contract, supplied and maintains a fleet of 52 vehicles. SFS also supported the council in meeting the 31 March deadline for launching a dedicated food waste collection service.
Rosa Tanfield, Managing Director, TVS commented: ‘SFS ensured that all the vehicles were in place ahead of the start date and it is testament to their high standards that our service has not been affected by vehicles being off-road.’
