NRG Fleet Services and Hills Waste Solutions have opened up a high-tech workshop and servicing facility in Calne, Wiltshire.

The new location was officially opened on November 3, 2020, by Sid Sadique, chairman and founder of NRG Fleet Services, and Ed Dodd, Group Director – Waste and Resource Management, for Hills Waste Solutions.

NRG Fleet Services has taken out a lease on a portion of the facility and maintains and repairs Hills fleet for both commercial and municipal services, as well as for many of the waste management supplier's other clients. NRG is also developing the site further as a flexible rental and hire depot, and as a strategic place to send out service support for its customers in the South.

Sid Sadique, founder and chairman of NRG Fleet Services, commented: 'The Calne depot and workshop highlights both organisations' commitment to delivering and maintaining outstanding service levels during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

'The understanding of customers' requirements and close partnership approach is at the basis of our cooperation. Long-term values, such as continuous investment and training of our staff, are fundamental in both our companies.'

NRG Fleet Services will be maintaining many types of vehicles, including RCVs (both commercial and domestic), Rear-end loaders, tippers, articulated trucks, trailers, hook loaders and skip lifts etc. The workshop can carry out everything from a vehicle inspection to a full body refurbishment. Annual testing and LOLER examinations will also be part of the services provided.

The workshop is fully equipped with the most advanced equipment, including roller-brake testers and lifting equipment. What is more, the Calne depot also has the latest vehicle diagnostics equipment installed, to enable super-fast diagnosis and repairs.

The service and maintenance facility took two years to build and measures 10,000 ft2. Sid explained how NRG is looking to expand this with a further 2,000 ft2. Currently, there is a team of 10 highly trained technicians working at the Calne site, and two supervisors who oversee the general operations.

Ed Dodd commented: 'The new facility has enabled us to integrate a large proportion of our operations. We have been able to refurbish our building assets, installed a dry mixed recyclables and materials recycling facility, as well as a workshop and vehicle depot in one location.

'The fact that the workshop is located at an existing integrated waste operation means that the majority of vehicles can be repaired and maintained on-site, and this significantly reduces our downtime.

'This is the critical strategic facility for Hills as we advance. Our cooperation enables us to provide joined-up service to our clients. The relationship with NRG is crucial to us, and this facility will allow both parties to grow and broaden their presence in the area and increase the strength of existing services.'
