Middlesbrough Council is trialling an all-electric street cleaning machine, the Glutton H₂O Perfect, as part of efforts to improve cleanliness across the borough.
The self-propelled vehicle, supplied by Bradshaw EV, combines vacuum technology with a medium-pressure water jet to remove litter, chewing gum, bird droppings and other grime in a single pass.
With a 240-litre waste container, dust filtration system and 60-litre water tank, the machine operates quietly with zero tailpipe emissions and is designed to reduce physical strain on operatives while covering larger areas more efficiently.
Over the coming months, the council will assess the machine’s performance in the town centre and key shopping areas, with a view to buying more if the trial is successful.
Mayor Chris Cooke described it as a ‘21st century take’ on traditional street cleaning, while Bradshaw EV managing director Ramsy Labassi said Middlesbrough was ‘leading the charge’ among councils exploring new cleaning technology.
