Council worker taken to hospital after bin lorry fire clean-up

A Glasgow council worker was taken to hospital after being jabbed with a needle while clearing rubbish from a bin lorry fire in Glasgow.

The blaze broke out last week, forcing the refuse vehicle to dump its load onto the street, where discarded vapes were later found among the waste.

GMB union convener Chris Mitchell told the BBC the worker received a Hepatitis B injection as a precaution following the incident, which happened four hours into the crew’s shift.

It’s understood to be the ninth bin lorry fire in Glasgow this year, with the council repeatedly urging residents to dispose of batteries and vapes safely.
