Rugby Borough Council’s 10 new food waste collection vehicles have been given unique names following a competition involving local schools.
After more than 100 entries had been submitted by over 25 schools in February and March, the winners were selected by a judging panel which included the Mayor of Rugby and Cllr Barbara Brown.
Among the successful monikers were The Omnivore, Dump Up The Jam, and Dave the Devourer, with a local supplier adding the names to the vehicles before they began operating as part of the council’s service.
They were also wrapped by Cannock-based company Creative Vehicle Wrapping (CVW), which provided the vehicles with new designs such as those displaying pictures of food waste, as well as emblazoning the lorries with one of the three following headings:
- Scrap happens. We deal with it
- Feel good about your food waste.
- Get eggcited: food waste collections are here.
