£1.5m invested to boost Mid and East Antrim’s fleet renewal programme

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s environmental services are to benefit from a £1.5m cash boost to support the purchase of new fleet vehicles.

The investment will be targeted towards the procurement of six new refuse collection vehicles (RCVs) and three compact sweepers.

As the latest development in the council’s ongoing fleet renewal programme, the move is part of the council’s efforts to modernise its fleet and enhance service delivery, with the vehicles contributing towards the consistency and reliability of its operations.

According to the council, the RCVs have been secured as part of the local authority’s waste harmonisation programme, while the compact sweepers will be stationed at the depots in Carrick, Larne and Ballymena.

The vehicles will also ensure increased fuel efficiency and a reduction in carbon emissions, as well as being fitted with improved safety features.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Thomas Gordon said: ‘This £1.5m investment demonstrates our commitment to continuous enhancement of services for our residents. By modernising our fleet, we are improving operational efficiency, supporting our environmental ambitions and ensuring our teams can continue to deliver vital services across the borough.

‘These new vehicles will help us maintain clean and attractive towns and villages, contribute to our waste harmonisation programme and support our wider sustainability objectives.’
