A new fleet of 43 Dennis Eagle RCVs has started operations with Biffa for waste and recycling operations in East Sussex.
The vehicles are all 6x2 narrow rear steer Elite chassis with Olympus 19 bodies and Terberg OmniDEL bin lifts. They will operate from three depots across the county in Hastings, Rother and Wealden.
The narrow version of the Elite chassis was given the highest five-star Direct Vision Standard rating by Transport for London in 2018 and scored higher than any other vehicle tested apart from the wide Elite chassis.
Both the Olympus body and Terberg OmniDEL bin lift were fitted at Dennis Eagle's Warwick factory, which enabled a shorter and more efficient lead time, a single point of contact during production and the most comprehensive pre-delivery inspection.
The last of the vehicles were delivered this summer in time for the start of a seven-year waste and recycling contract with East Sussex Joint Waste Partnership that began operating on June 29.
Changes to the weekly recycling collections will now see plastic, cans, paper and card collected in the same container as glass, providing the same mix of commingled dry recycling across the county.
Maintenance of the Dennis Eagle vehicles will be carried out in-house but Biffa says it is planning on using the DennisConnect telematics system more to increase efficiency.
Biffa Business Director David Maidman commented: ‘We had a very specific requirement in the contract for narrow vehicles and the Dennis Eagle Elites came out on top. But we also have a very long and successful trading relationship with the company which made working with them an easy decision.'
