Roadvert is helping a council to thank residents for their recycling efforts with a public message that will be driven past their homes.

Brighton and Hove City Council has fitted six recycling trucks with Roadvert's quick-change Spedian vehicle graphics for the campaign.

The prominent thank you message will be seen by thousands of people as the recycling vehicles go about on their collection rounds.

There will also be a gentle reminder that plastic bottles, washed clean and without their lids, are the only plastic items the council accepts for recycling.

Rachel Chasseaud, Assistant Director - City Environmental Management at Brighton & Hove City Council, said: ‘Turning our recycling vehicles into moving billboards is a great way to get our message about the importance of recycling across.

‘We're determined to increase recycling rates so we are reminding people about what can be recycled and our vehicles go past most homes we collect from.'

The city council has used refuse collection vehicles before to spread public information messages about its services, advertising its paid-for garden waste collections.

New campaigns may be run in future because the Spedian system makes it easy to change the graphics in less than an hour and without damaging the vehicle. Once removed, graphics panels can be rolled up and stored for later use, which is ideal for seasonal campaigns.

Lawrence Craig, CEO of Roadvert, said: ‘Many local authorities are now seeing the value of running public information campaigns on the sides of bin lorries and recycling vehicles.

‘I think it is fantastic that Brighton and Hove City Council is using Spedian graphics to thank their residents. It's a very public gesture that will have a wide audience.

Recycling vehicles have a high public profile and move slowly, so everyone will eventually get the message.'
