Stockton Borough Council has taken delivery of seven Mellor high-floor, Mercedes-built buses which are on lease from NRG Fleet Services.

John Thirling, fleet services manager for Stockton Borough Council, said: 'These latest additions take the number of buses from Mellor up to 22. The majority of them were brought in following a procurement process in which Mellor came out on top each time.

'We plan to use our new vehicles for community transport, in particular for the carrying of vulnerable adults to and from social care services. We believe the Mellor coach built vehicle is the perfect size and specification for the route and the number of passengers it needs to accommodate'

Stockton Borough Council was seeking a vehicle that would meet its specific requirements while quality, price and delivery remained major considerations. The vehicle features a fully-flat floor as well as seating for up to 12 passengers.

Jane Dransfield, area sales manager for Central England and North Wales for Mellor, said: 'The vehicles taken by NRG that will be used by Stockton Borough Council are based on the versatile Mercedes Sprinter chassis. In particular, the accessibility features of the buses make them ideal for the passengers who will be using the service.

'It's been great working with John and NRG to tailor their new vehicles to meet the council's exact requirements. In addition to these vehicles, the council has recently placed an order for two further Mercedes-chassis-based vehicles from Mellor'

Stockton Borough Council provides both public and community transport services with a fleet of 57 buses offering a variety of seating and accessibility options suited to a wide range of requirements.
