The police are investigating a serious bin lorry accident that took place in Fylde yesterday and resulted in a fatality.
The incident occurred in Freckleton yesterday morning and involved a serious collision between a pedestrian and a Fylde Council refuse vehicle.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and the road was closed to members of the public by the police.
Fylde Council later issued a statement on social media confirming the incident had resulted in the death of the pedestrian involved, and that the police’s investigation is ongoing.
Cllr Michelle Morris, Lead Member for Customer and Operational Services, said: ‘I am deeply saddened by the tragic events in Freckleton today. On behalf of Fylde Council, I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this incredibly difficult time.
‘This is a tragedy that will impact many people. The family and friends of the deceased and the wider community in Freckleton will all be affected. We are ensuring that appropriate support is available to all those affected.’
The council has also called for witnesses of the incident to speak with Lancashire Police or contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit if they have not already done so.
