Maldon District Council is requesting approval to acquire a new bin lorry to assist with garden waste collection services.

The move to acquire the 7.5 tonne Suez vehicle is set to be discussed during the council’s strategy and resources committee meeting on July 24.
The vehicle will cost roughly £130,000 and enable the local authority to carry out waste collection services at houses on its ‘small vehicle route’.
According to the council, the new lorry will cater to isolated properties, which are ‘not currently offered a garden waste collection service’ and require servicing with a smaller vehicle due to ‘access issues’.
If the purchase is approved, the new lorry will begin operating across the district from October 2025, ahead of the Government’s Simpler Recycling waste collection deadline in 2026.
A council spokesperson said: ‘At the meeting of the Strategy and Resources Committee on Thursday 24 July, members will be considering the recommendation that our contractor Suez procures an additional vehicle’.
The vehicle will ‘allow for the expansion of the garden waste collection service to the whole district ensuring compliance with Simpler Recycling legislation’, they added.
