The vehicles will replace aging trucks that are over 10 years old, ensuring a more reliable rubbish and recycling service for residents.

The new RCVs, leased to maximise cost efficiency over the next three years, feature electric bin lifts that reduce fuel consumption by around 9%, supporting the council’s commitment to sustainability and its goal of reaching net zero by 2045.

Each truck can carry up to 11 tonnes of waste – roughly equivalent to 390 full household bins.

Cllr Netty Shepherd, cabinet lead for Commercial, said the investment will ‘minimise potential breakdowns that cause disruption to bin collections borough wide, in order to provide a more reliable service for our residents.’
