Glasgow City Council has doubled its overnight street cleansing team following the addition of 40 new posts.

According to the council, the 80-member overnight team will be tasked with managing the ‘tonnes of waste’ that can be created at large events with large numbers of people in attendance.
The move follows a £7m investment made by the council earlier this year, allowing for the introduction of 200 further street cleansing and parks operations posts.
Cllr Laura Doherty, City Convener for Neighbourhood Services and Assets, said the overnight team expansion will enable the council to ‘maximise’ its investment and praised the staff’s hard work during quieter hours.
Cllr Doherty commented: ‘Doubling the size of the street cleansing team will mean our staff can get through more of the work that matters to our residents - picking litter, power washing, street sweeping and emptying bins.’
She added: ‘We've invested in our street cleansing service because we know this is a priority for local residents.’
Alongside the additions to the overnight team, the funding will also support the creation of a deep clean team and neighbourhood clean team for the city’s 23 council wards.
