The local authority’s climate-conscious decision to switch from diesel to electric vehicles is one which reduces fuel expenditure and minimises vehicle maintenance fees, whilst also supporting public wellbeing.

Both the Building Maintenance Department and Street Cleansing teams will benefit from the efficiency of the new electric vehicles whilst delivering vital public services such as property repairs, litter management and fly-tipping control.

The Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Cllr Bryan Deakin, said: ‘This switch to electric vehicles demonstrates our strong commitment to reducing emissions and creating healthier communities. We're proud to be leading the way in sustainable local government operations.’

The fleet will be comprised of eight Ford Transit Tippers and a further four electric vehicles which have not yet been used in the UK: Ford Luton vans.
