The two-week trial will run until November 26 and has involved the council’s waste collection partner, Biffa, using the vehicle in various locations in the area to gather data on its performance.

Backed by funding from Biffa, the scheme will provide insight into ‘issues such as economy and efficiency’ and has so far delivered promising results.

According to the council, the trial is designed to assist the local authority in determining ‘whether to move the entire fleet of vehicles over to battery power and away from fossil fuel in the future’.

The testing vehicle has been branded with an ‘100% electric’ slogan to ensure it remains recognisable across the community.
