Charnwood Borough Council has acquired a new electric van to support its street management service.

Following the expansion, the local authority’s three-asset street management fleet is now fully electric.
The move will see a 23-tonne reduction in Charnwood BC’s fleet emissions, contributing to the council’s 2030 carbon neutrality goals.
According to the local authority, the fleet was ‘one of the largest contributors to its carbon footprint’.
Cllr Liz Blackshaw, the council’s lead member for street management, said: ‘Travelling around the borough is a key element of the street management service so being able to do that sustainably is important.’
Cllr Beverley Gray, the Council’s lead member for climate action and net zero added: ‘We have made huge, sustainable improvements to much of our infrastructure over the past few years and continue to do so including to our leisure facilities, car parks and vehicle fleets.’
