Performance Emissions Ltd, a firm based in Caerphilly, said its fuel conditioner had been proven to increase miles per gallon by up to 47%.

The product has already been part of a pilot involving five of Caerphilly’s heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).

The council’s fleet maintenance and operations manager, Vernon Oak, said: ‘The introduction of a fuel additive product that cleans your fuel & AdBlue systems, assists the engine to operate more efficiently at lower temperatures, reducing further maintenance costs as well as a reduction in CO2 emissions whilst increasing fuel economy at first sounded too good to be true given what is already available out in the fleet market.

‘Taking onboard the product possibilities alongside our journey to achieving our 2030 green fleet objectives, Caerphilly Borough County Council decided to support the local business in an early pilot scheme across several of our busy HGV fleet.

‘The pilot indicated some great results with a positive indication of reductions in CO2 emissions with most achieving 0%; therefore we are glad to be extending our trials for six months across all our operational fleet.’
