The scheme follows the earlier installation of 306 solar panels across the office, stores, and workshop, which are already saving an estimated £32,890 annually and cutting CO2 emissions by 23.11 tonnes.

The EV project, supported by potential Government grant funding of £442,000, will provide up to 17 chargers of varying speeds. These will service the council’s existing electric fleet, including a bin truck, mini sweeper, and van, while accommodating future electric vehicles.

Cllr Nigel Grundy highlighted that while Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) has reduced fleet emissions by up to 90%, the switch to electric represents the council’s ultimate sustainable goal.

He added that the initiative supports Blaby’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030 and aligns with wider strategic themes of protecting the natural and built environment.
