A £50m Environmental Services Contract has been awarded by Harborough District Council to support its waste collection, street cleansing and grounds maintenance services.
In a bid to ‘strengthen the long-term delivery of frontline environmental services’, the contract has been granted to FCC Recycling UK and will last for an initial seven-year period, beginning next April.
According to the council, the move will deliver benefits such as improvements to the local authority’s street cleaning service, as well as the introduction of weekly food waste collections and more resources to combat fly tipping.
It will also allow for investment in more modern vehicles and equipment, the delivery of environmental and sustainability schemes, an enhanced performance management framework, and dedication to social value commitments.
The local authority enlisted the help of the Welland Procurement Team to support the 18-month procurement process, with the aim of ensuring fairness and transparency.
Cllr David Page, Cabinet Lead for Neighbourhood Services, said: “The new contract will deliver improvements across waste collection, street cleansing and grounds maintenance, while also providing wider community benefits through FCC Recycling UK Ltd’s social value commitments.
‘Alongside our investment in depot and fleet infrastructure, the contract will support the long-term delivery of reliable, resilient and effective environmental services.’
