Horsham District Council has cut the ribbon to its new maintenance depot that will house the area’s food waste recycling services.
Following the investment in the facility, the council will benefit from an upgraded vehicle workshop, inspection pit, and staff amenities.
In a statement published today, the local authority said that the new depot ensures there is sufficient space to ‘service and repair’ the ‘expanded fleet of collection vehicles’ working across its food waste recycling service.
Given that council has collected almost 1,500 tonnes of food waste since the introduction of separate collections in March, the move will help to keep operations running smoothly.
Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Waste, Cllr David Skipp, said: ‘Recycling food waste helps reduce the amount of rubbish sent for disposal, cuts greenhouse gas emissions and allows valuable resources to be reused.
‘This investment supports the reliable services residents depend on while helping us protect the environment and support nature across the district.
