The incident on Wednesday saw one of Newcastle City Council’s refuse vehicles catch fire, with crews immediately being called to the scene.
According to the local authority, no one was injured as fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze safely.
While the source of the fire is currently unknown, the council has confirmed that it is collaborating with the fire service to determine the cause.
A council spokesperson said: ‘There was some disruption to refuse collections yesterday and our teams are making every effort to collect any missed bins as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.’
