Children across North East Derbyshire have contributed to the naming of the council’s seven new refuse vehicles.
The competition launched by the district council involved primary school pupils across the area, with the five winning schools each receiving a £100 Amazon voucher for their contributions.
Winners were selected by the local authority’s streetscene team and call centre staff, who chose the following names for the new trucks:
– Leonardo Da Binci
– Wheely Helpful
– Trash ‘n’ Dash
– The Hungry Hippo
– Bincess Peach
– The Bincredible Hulk
– Peel Patrol.
Cllr Steve Pickering, North East Derbyshire District Council’s Cabinet member for the Environment, said: ‘It’s great to see young people getting involved with helping the environment in this national drive to reduce and reuse food waste.’
He added: ‘A huge thank you to residents who are already helping to make a difference to our environment by putting their food waste out for collection. We only have one planet, so let’s take care of it.’
