Published:  01 September, 2016

Contract hire and fleet management company Specialist Fleet Services Ltd (SFS) is has once more been awarded the contract to provide a new waste and recycling fleet for Richmondshire District Council.

SFS has been working with the authority for more than 10 years and this is the third consecutive time it has been awarded the contract. This latest contract was tendered through Capita and TPPL.

The new fleet will comprise five Dennis Eagle Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs), three Terberg Kerbloaders on DAF chassis and one NTM 15 tonne RCV on a DAF chassis. The five-year contract hire agreement includes maintenance, which will be coordinated by Dennis Eagle’s North East service centre in Coundon. Delivery of the vehicles will begin just before Christmas 2016.

Councillor Tony Duff of Richmondshire District Council, said: ‘We are pleased to be entering this contract as it represents best value and will enable us to move to a new programme for collecting household waste and recyclates.

‘The new vehicles will also enable us to increase the types of recyclates we can collect, particularly more cardboard and varieties of plastic.’

Northampton-based SFS has more than 20 years’ experience in delivering successful contract hire, fleet and workshop management solutions to the public and private sector.

Bob Sweetland, managing director of SFS, said: ‘One of our greatest achievements is our success in retaining our customers but it also speaks volumes when we win these tender bids on merit alone.  We go to great lengths to understand our customers’ individual operational needs and use our in-depth knowledge to add value where possible.’

Richmondshire District covers a total area of over 500 square miles, incorporating much of the northern area of the Yorkshire Dales including Swaledale and Wensleydale as well as Richmond and Catterick Garrison.
