A new van-mounted boom lift aimed at utilities contractors makes its UK debut at Scotplant.

Access Platform Sales (APS), the UK distributor for Aldercote products, will be exhibiting the new VZ130U model that is designed and built in Britain.

The Aldercote VZ130U is designed for street light maintenance and highways work, providing a 13m working height and 6.8m maximum outreach. Mounted on a 3.5t Ford Transit chassis, the Aldercote VZ130U can be driven by anyone with a standard UK licence.

The lightweight boom and innovative pedestal design provides a spacious interior compared to other van-mounted boom lifts for the extra equipment required for modern utilities contracting. It also substantially increases vehicle payload: the VZ130U offers up to 300kg of carrying capacity, even after accounting for two occupants and a full tank of fuel.

All controls ' including the hydraulics, manual pump and emergency lowering function ' can be accessed from inside the van rather than on the roof to improve safety while also making them much easier to service.

All Aldercote machines come with biodegradable oil as standard, which negates the need for emergency services to respond to oil spills. Optional extras include a remote fault diagnostics system.

The zero-overhang-boom design ensures there is no tail swing outside the existing footprint of the van and its stabilisers, helping to improve worker safety. Two of the tripod's legs incorporate independent, rotating stabilisers, which use a direct load transfer system to transfer the platform load through the main column directly to the stabilisers. This reduces the stress on the vehicle's chassis, increasing its life span.

The Aldercote range is divided into three series, each with different levels of performance and specification: Performance, Utility and Contractor. The VZ130U is part of the Utility range.

The Performance series is the premium product. The Aldercote Utility series lifts has telescopic booms designed specifically for the street lighting market. And the Contractor series provides competitively priced market-entry products, combining hydraulic platform controls with simple, steel boom designs.

Scotplant 2016 takes place at the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, near Edinburgh, on April 22nd and 23rd. The Aldercote boom will be on the APS stand in Avenue D, Stand 7.
