On-board vehicle weighing specialist company Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) has shown off its new 12,000ft installation centre in Chesterfield to local MP Toby Perkins.

The company's weighing systems are designed and manufactured in Reading but since 2009 installations have been carried out in Chesterfield.

Managing Director Julian Glasspole said: 'We are delighted with our new premises, which are much better equipped. We can already install three times as many bin-weighers as last year. The site is also better located for access to the motorway network.'

The new premises feature a purpose built lifting system that can accommodate any make of vehicle, a dedicated calibration area, a spray booth and powder coating plant and a production line for weighbridges.

Glasspole said the company, which employs 30 people in Chesterfield, is currently recruiting five new engineers and will be looking to take on more people when the new site is open.

He added: 'We have purchased a site across the road and are submitting a planning application to build a unit of the same size next year so that we can double our capacity.'

Toby Perkins MP said: 'I am absolutely delighted to see the expansion plans Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) have for their Chesterfield site. VWS tell me that the access to skills and the proximity to so much of Britain makes Chesterfield an attractive site. VWS and Chesterfield are good for each other.'
