Go Plant Ltd has given their services to clean up Southampton Airport's runway earlier this summer after a 5km charity fun run.

The leading road sweeper supplier provided vital sweeping services at the site following the Summer Solstice Sprint, which saw more than 300 runners take to the runway to raise vital funds for local charity ' Sophie's Appeal.

Go Plant Ltd has nine depots across the UK including one in Eastleigh, Southampton and has a sweeping contract with Southampton Airport.

'We provide a cleaning programme at Southampton Airport which covers road sweeping, rotary power washing and an emergency call out service to clean oil spills,' said Shaun Smithson, National Key Accounts and Sales Manager at Go Plant.

'So when we were asked if we could assist with the event, we didn't hesitate to offer our services.

'As the airport's runway is used so frequently, we have a due diligence to ensure that it's clear of any foreign objects and debris, maintaining a high standard of safety for aircrafts and passengers.

'We were delighted to support the airport in the slightly more unusual task of clearing the site after the fun run, and are extremely proud of the Go Plant team, who turned everything around so quickly and efficiently.'

The Summer Solstice Sprint raised more than £6,000 for Sophie's Appeal, a local Southampton charity which provides support to children, their parents or carers, nursing and support staff who find themselves suddenly faced with the reality of childhood cancer.

Jan Halliday, Director of Marketing and Communications at Southampton Airport, said: 'A really big thank you to Go Plant and its team who joined us bright and early on the Summer Solstice to sweep our runway and enable Southampton Airport to be ready to open as usual at 0730 on the Sunday morning.'
