The winter of 2013/14 was recognised by many as the 'calm after the storm' after relatively mild conditions were experienced in most parts of the UK compared to the previous five winters. Nonetheless, the task of managing winter service in the UK remains as challenging as ever as councils balance tight budgets with delivering more innovation and efficiencies to make their winter service strategies more effective.

This year's conference programme is once again set to deliver vital content from the heart of the winter service sector addressing the most important issues and challenges, as well as focusing on subject areas never covered at Cold Comfort before. The conference and exhibition is bringing unseen and unique coverage of the winter service sector and sets about with a more interactive approach. As ever the event 9organised by Surveyor magazine and supported by LAPV will focus on the planning, strategic development and implementation of winter service delivery plans and other key guidance, such as how local authorities are implementing the new Appendix H document which was launched at Cold Comfort last September.
Taking place on September 30t and October 1 at Manchester Central, Cold Comfort 2014 will see a new line up of speakers as well as challenging and thought-provoking sessions never delivered before at the conference. These include key sessions such as:

*Making the best of winter service budgets
*How to make the most of Appendix H
*What happens when an accident happens-how to prepare yourself for court
*The principles of collaboration and more effective winter service delivery
*Learning from the rest of Europe ' a focus on winter service delivery in Norway and Denmark
*Winter service delivery benchmarking
*Emergency planning ' working with schools and hospitals
*Case studies from Wiltshire and Oldham
*Managing vital railway assets

There will also be three break out sessions covering technology, training and a round-table debate.
Cold Comfort 2014 will feature its largest ever exhibition covering over 2,700 sqm showcasing the latest innovation and development. Those wishing to attend the exhibition only can register for FREE.
