Specialist vehicle hire company Go Plant has acquired Yorkshire-based road sweeper firm Smallwoods as part of its plans for expansion across the UK.
Ibstock-based Go Plant, along with their sister company Go Plant Fleet Services, currently operates a 4,700-strong fleet of contract hire, operated and self-drive specialist vehicles from 37 depots and service centres nationwide.
The company has been seeking to establish a stronger presence in North and East Yorkshire, and the acquisition of Smallwoods will allow Go Plant to service public and private sector customers in this area.
Mark Gallimore, commercial director at Go Plant, said: 'The opportunity to acquire Smallwoods represented a significant expansion in this area. The yard at Smallwoods is perfectly located between York and Pocklington, and this will give us a tremendous platform from which to further develop our business across Yorkshire'
Smallwoods has a long history as a family business in York but until the Go Plant acquisition it had been streamlining operations. The purchase will mean Smallwoods will be placed back on track for growth, with Go Plant aiming to grow its operation to six sweepers over the next year.
The Yorkshire satellite depot will be managed by John Wild, Yorkshire and North East regional manager, who brings with him years of experience in the road sweeping industry, along with a management and sales team with the expertise to make it a success.
