A towing device that displays wirelessly the weight being towed has launched by Hampshire-bassed Straightpoint.
The 25kN capacity towing device is based on its best-selling product, the Radiolink Plus, which provides dynamic information about lifting and rigging activity straight to a PC.
The Towcell product was initially developed after an enquiry from the UK Highways Agency which had a fleet of lease vehicles and needed to ensure they were not towing over capacity and damaging clutches, axles and other components.
Straightpoint director David Ayling said: 'The Radiolink Plus is our most popular product and a fantastic blueprint upon which to base design and manufacture of the Towcell. Its unique mounting allows it to be fitted to tow hitch or pin hitch without the need for a shackle.'
All vehicles have a maximum load they can tow, usually listed in the vehicle's handbook. A vehicle's gross train weight (the weight of the fully-loaded car plus fully-loaded trailer not to be exceeded) may be listed on the identification number (VIN) plate on the car.
It is important that those responsible for towing activity are fully aware of the loads on tow behind the vehicle. With Towcell, users can view these measurements via the SW-HHP handheld display or via a Windows tablet using the SW-MWLC software package, which is suitable when data logging is required.
