Local authorities are failing to engage with fleets as part of their electrification strategies, new research reveals.

Nearly half (49%) of councils have an electric vehicle (EV) strategy, an increase from 37% in 2023, according to the Fleet Friendly Charging Index from BVRLA.

However, only 5% of local authorities have clearly engaged with fleets, up on 3% in 2023.

Gerry Keaney, BVRLA chief executive told Fleet News: ‘It is good to see progress across the UK but we are heading towards a dead end.

‘Fleets represent the majority of miles driven across the UK. Failing to meet their needs will lead to ineffective infrastructure.’
