Adur and Worthing Borough Councils have pooled resources to make waste and street-scene more efficient and more customer responsive.

Collaboration between Councils on front-line services has become more widespread in recent times, in response to staff and budget cuts. Adur District and Worthing Borough Councils have been working together since 2007, jointlyinvesting in a new 140 litre wheel bin scheme for weekly refuse and fortnightly recycling collections.

Bartec's software was introduced across a combined fleet of 23 RCVs throughout 2010 and 2011, helping to control waste collection from over 75,000households. The Council wereimpressed by the system's near real-time communications, event recording, round management, vehicle tracking and reporting. The rapid flow of information also enables moreeffective deployment of resources and prompt feedback for householders, in the event of an issue.

Tony Patching, Business and Operations Manager at Adur and Worthing Council Services states:β€œA key benefit of Bartec's system is that it has enabled a verytargeted approach. Ongoing issues with contaminated household waste streams can be quickly identified down to individual property level and pro-actively handled by a recycling officer'.

'Since Bartec's solution also links into the Councils' CRM system, customer queries can be resolved the same day. The result is a reduction in repeated customer visits and vehicle call outs, making the service altogether more efficient across this widespread rural area, despitelimited resources.”

The Councils now plan to build upon this success by usingBartec's system for their trade waste service. Bartec's comprehensive Collective software is designed to drive down the cost of field services and to provide complete control through integrated planning and optimisation tools. This facilitateswork scheduling, job updates and management information, in one single, easy to use system.

Tony Patching continues: β€œIt's an excellent system and we are working alongside Bartec to make refinements along the way. A combination of new working practices, our CRM system and the Collective suite has helped to drive real improvements and reduce costs. The crews have become reliant upon the system now, they find it easier to log jobs.”
